The damhojaspodint’s Podcast

A Weekly Dose of African Diaspora &/ Africans in Africa Trending Topics - Unveiling African Stories - That’s What We Do!” #The Africa We Want. Hosts: Mercy-Esther Mhoja (UK based) and Dr Monica Mhoja (Africa Based) Da Mhoja’s Pod idea of interviewing Africans in Diaspora and connecting with Dr Mhoja in Africa to interview other Africans is a compelling concept that aligns with the African Union’s Aspiration 6, which aims to foster a strong African diaspora and promote cooperation between the continent and the diaspora. The aim is to bridge the gap between Africans in Diaspora and those on the African continent. Seeing first hand the challenges and disconnect that Africans in the diaspora often face, Da Mhoja’s podcast will be focusing on several issues such as cultural gaps, lack of representation, and limited understanding of the African continent. It takes other individuals with similar experiences to know the determination and the hard work it takes to be successful. The podcast will serve as a platform for meaningful conversations, storytelling, and connections. It will foster a sense of belonging and cultural understanding within the African diaspora in UK, USA and beyond. I feel there is gap and need to do this podcast as the positive impact it can have on the African diaspora community, such as increased cultural awareness, stronger connections, and a sense of empowerment.

Welcome to Da mhoja's Pod, where we explore emerging social issues and champion change. This is a special episode as we commemorate the International Widows Day that takes place annually on 23rd June. The day was launched by the UN in 2010 to raise awareness of the violation of human rights that widows suffer in many countries following the death of their spouses.
The ultimate goal of the day is to develop resources and policy to empower widows.

Today, we continue diving deep into the poignant realities of widowhood with an experienced learned sister Advocate Annuciater Bulashi - a dedicated lawyer (a member of Tanzania Women Lawyers Association; Tanganyika Law Society; and Board member of Tanzania Media Women Association among others) who has spent years supporting vulnerable individuals, including widows.

Also we have 3 special widows including Bibi Ruth Shija ( a widow for more than 30 years). Together, we’ll explore the multifaceted challenges these widows endure, their recommendations for changes and a call for action for every one to promote and protect widows rights.
